While springs can provide clean and reliable water, they are often exposed to contamination from surface runoff, livestock, open defecation, and human activity. Without proper protection, communities remain vulnerable to waterborne diseases such as cholera, typhoid, and diarrhea.

At Alleviate Africa, we work with communities to protect and restore natural springs, ensuring safe, sustainable access to clean water for families, schools, and health centers.

What Is Spring Protection?

Spring protection is the process of safeguarding a natural water spring from contamination while improving water collection and flow. This involves constructing protective structures around the spring source and channeling clean water through safe outlets for community use.

A single protected spring can serve 300-400 (three to four hundreds) of people for many years.
